Having Fun with Slings

At the end of Term Two Room 7 had a guest speaker Mrs Sutton who is a nurse.  She talked to us about her life in the field of medicine.  Early this term she sent us in some slings, we had a lot of fun pretending we had broken arms and wearing slings even though our arms weren’t broken.  This showed us what it would be like to have a broken arm or hand. Room 7 had to put the sling on the hand that they usually work with and use their other hand to write and work.  Here are some pictures we would like to show you.

Speeches!!!!

Speeches began today in room 7.
" The bright eyes of Room 7 made us red in the face, nervous and nearly speechless.  The thought of mucking up made us shiver like an earthquake.  Our hearts were beating as fast a lightning flashes.  In the end we were happy with our results and got lots of surprises and feedback."

Lovely Laptops

At the beginning of this term the laptops were put into our classes on a permanent basis.  We love this.  It helps us with all our subjects and means we can access information really quickly.

"It makes life easier to do my work"  Paige

"I think it is much easier because now we can get to a computer all the time when we need them"  Adam

"I would like more of them"  Ellyse

Reciprocal Reading

In the past few weeks we have been working on Reciprocal Reading with Mrs Brunton.  Our focus has been to improve our skills in the areas of summarising, predicting and clarifying.  One article that we read was particularly interesting about Afghanistan refugees.  There was a huge amount of new vocabulary that we discussed and some really inetresting facts to learn also.  Ask us about it at home and we will enlighten you!!

Flying Fox
One of the activities we did at Sonshine Ranch was called the Flying Fox. We staggered up the hill to the starting platform with the heavy pulley in our hands. Hearts thumped as the parent on the platform hooked us on to the carabiner. ”Run and leap off the platform like superman flying after his enemy!” the parent shouted. We leapt off the platform and soared down the great big valley like a hawk.

Pikelet Heaven
On Thursday, we made pikelets. It was pikelet heaven! First we had to mix the ingredients together. The parents turned the stove on and then it was all up to us. We melted the butter, put the mixture in the pan and of course, ate the decadently delicious pikelets we made!
